PHILOSOPHY

My yoga philosophy is the simple idea of taking time for yourself – I think of it as an enjoyable maintenance for daily life.

Just like we brush our teeth and shower everyday, we need to open our lungs, move our body, and clear our minds regularly.

WHAT MAKES YOUR CLASSES AND PRIVATE SESSIONS UNIQUE?

I really emphasize breathing, mental focus, and relaxation.

Although breathing is integral to yoga, the modern popularization of yoga (at least in my experience) sometimes leaves the specifics of breathing out.

I make it a point to talk about the breath, how and why to breathe, and constantly remind people to breathe during class. I also believe in the power of relaxation to heal and help us be our best selves. We all hold tension in our bodies.

It costs us energy to hold that tension. When we learn to consciously release tension, we free up energy that we can redirect anywhere we choose. Relaxation can be one of the most productive things we do.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?

I love expressing the subtleties of my experience with yoga to other people. I also love seeing the transformation that can happen in people in such a short time.

I love to see a person smiling after yoga, especially if they walked in from a rough day.

WHY WOULD SOMEONE OPT FOR PRIVATE YOGA PRACTICE / TRAINING INSTEAD OF GROUP CLASSES?

Private yoga is more ideal than group class because the practice can be tailored to the individual.

Everyone comes to yoga with their own unique bodies, temperaments, needs, and interests.

Working one on one can be invaluable because we can focus on the immediate needs of the individual.
